Westminster Security is delighted to announce that we have been granted CNAPS authority for the provision of Close Protection (Protection Rapprochée) in France. This is an exciting development for the company as we expand and evolve to fulfil our client’s needs on the Continent, it’s the cumulative result of over a year’s hard work and investment in the region. We have been operationally active for over 5 years providing ad hoc close protection services in France and now seek to build on our reputation and success in London, to become a leading close protection company in France. We are proud to be the only London based security company to hold CNAPS Authorisation for the ‘Protection physique des personnes’ (physical protection of people) in France.
CNAPS (Conseil National des Activités Privées de Sécurité) is the French equivalent of the SIA (Security Industry Authority) in the UK, they are responsible for the regulation of the security industry in their respective countries. Security companies in France are governed by strict regulation from the Ministry of Interior that requires them to hold CNAPS authorisation and hire personnel that have acquired the appropriate training and licences for the services they wish to provide. Unlike the UK where SIA business licencing is looking ever more unlikely, security companies in France must be ‘CNAPS licensed’ and hold the relevant CNAPS authority to operate legally. SIA licence holders can apply for CNAPS licences but must work through a French CNAPS approved company unless they have applied for prior authorisation. This can be a laborious procedure, that can take several months and is not always a practical solution. Prior authorisation allows SIA licensed security operatives to work for up to 3 months in France without the need for a CNAPS licence.

When hiring bodyguards in France, it is important to make sure that the company you hire from or are working for is genuine and has the required credentials to operate and provide security services. They must have a SIRET (Company number) and CNAPS Authorisation number, you can check their validity on the CNAPS website. If a company does not have these they are operating illegally, if you hire or work for them you are also breaking the law and risk prosecution. Both staff and clients will not be covered by the company’s insurance policy.
A driving factor behind our leap across the English Channel was the demand for our highly trained ex-military and police bodyguards that have the necessary experience, knowledge and language skills required to seamlessly operate across the Continent with our adventurous clients. In or out, deal or no deal we will continue to protect our clients, their assets and interests across Europe in the face of the impending ‘Brexit’ – the UK leaving the European Union. With the uncertainty this brings and the increasing demand for our bodyguard services in France, it was vital we were proactive in planning for Brexit (unlike the British Government!) implementing our plans expeditiously.
We already have extensive experience and a proven team of multilingual French bodyguards providing personal protection to our clients throughout France, including Reims, Paris, Lyon, Monaco, Cannes and Saint Tropez. Our clients extend from London based business executives to celebrities travelling for work or leisure. In addition, there is an increasing demand for our services from holidaymakers who are travelling to France and are concerned about the ongoing terror threat and attacks. With the terrorist threat at an all-time high and crime rates soaring, the demand for bodyguard services in France is rapidly growing, with many residents and travellers seeking a more robust personal security solution. Establishing a presence in Paris allows us to better serve our existing and new client-base by being in-country ready to react and assist with all their security needs.
Westminster Security has gained CNAPS Authorisation just in time for the Cannes film festival and Monaco Grand Prix, where we will be in attendance once again this year providing discreet close protection services to many of our high-profile clients and seasonal visitors. We are licensed and authorised to not only provide close protection in France but also security chauffeur services, residential security and high-end event security too.
